Northern circuit part one: Salta to Purmamarca

Saw wild vicunas, llamas, burrowing owls and the Salinas Grandes (salt flats) on our drive from Salta to Purmamarca.
Wild vicunas a protected species in Argentina

Burrowing owls
llamas in the wild on the Alto Plano
Roadside Llamas in the mountains

Peddler selling her hand woven llama blanket at our mountain lunch stop. Great sales lady.
Getting high together!

Salinas Grandes (salt flats).
The sun was so bright on the huge lake of salt on a bright sunny day. This cactus was carved of salt.

Pictured is the Marques de Tojo boutique hotel in Purmamarca. We stayed in suite ten and had incredible views. The swimming pool is modest but adequate.
The lobby is a lovely spot to read and hang out.
Lovely breakfast room
The view from our hotel balcony faces the hill of seven colors ( Cerro de los Siete Colores)
There is a wonderful 3 kilometer trail (Paseo de los colorados) close to our hotel.

We are hiking at 7,580 feet above sea level.
10 million years of erosion

It was a great hike into the mountains and the colors were incredible!
